This policy tool-kit has been compiled by the CALIMERA Co-ordination Action, funded under the European Commission's
Information Society Technologies (IST) Sixth Framework Programme (FP6).
It is intended to support all those developing policies for partnerships between museums,
libraries and archives. Local institutions can achieve more for their organisation, staff and users, if they
get support from policy agencies and funding bodies. The tool-kit will benefit decision-makers at a community,
regional and national level by focusing on effective ways of creating user-responsive services.
Those who contribute to democracy and citizenship, lifelong learning, social and economic development and
cultural diversity through their policies will be given new ways of thinking through and acting on these issues.
In conjunction with other aspects of CALIMERA to which this policy tool-kit points, this project looks at key
issues for policy development.
The tool-kit provides brief introductions to key issues. Users who wish a more in-depth knowledge of the
subject can follow the links to important documents both within the CALIMERA programme and, where relevant,
to other policy guidance and advice. The CALIMERA guidelines on both policy and management issues are an
extremely valuable tool for all policy-makers.
The case studies included in the tool-kit provide policy makers with best practice examples of developing
policy on across the museums, libraries and archives domains.
