Checklist D: Workforce Development Strategies

Consider these points for successful development of staff at all levels
Write a workforce development plan
Demonstrate through the plan that all the relevant people are engaged
Set up a centrally managed system of support for training
Gather appropriate information on the skills and experience of staff
Gather information on the skills gaps that must be filled to deliver the project
Demonstrate through the plan the outstanding training needs of staff
Demonstrate through the plan the ways in which these needs will be met
Identify appropriate mentors and leaders within the team
Ensure staff are motivated in their work areas
Ensure staff inductions are provided for appropriately
Consider writing a training manual to which all staff have access
Ensure all technical needs are met including training in digital issues specific to the project
Give consideration to the needs of the volunteer workforce
Monitor and evaluate the plan as the work progresses
Ensure the results of the monitoring and evaluation are fed into future work plans
